EVPN Type 6 route question

2 weeks ago

I have the following topology

EVPN-Multcast-type6.PNG

R16 (10.10.2.22) joined a multicast group (239.1.1.11). I pinged from vServer2 (10.10.2.2) to this multicast address.

On spine-7

root@spine-7# run show route table bgp.evpn.0 | find ^6
6:192.168.100.2:2::5020::239.1.1.11::192.168.100.2/520
                   *[BGP/170] 00:08:42, localpref 100, from 192.168.100.2
                      AS path: I, validation-state: unverified
                    >  to 172.16.72.2 via xe-0/0/1.10

on vtep-3

root@vtep-3# run show route table bgp.evpn.0 | find ^6
6:192.168.100.2:2::5020::239.1.1.11::192.168.100.2/520
                   *[BGP/170] 00:09:52, localpref 100, from 192.168.100.7
                      AS path: I, validation-state: unverified
                    >  to 172.16.73.7 via xe-0/0/1.15

In my understanding, icmp to this multicast address from vServer2 should not be seen on vtep-1 and vtep-4. Am I right ?

I did see them on these two vteps.  What do I miss here ?

Appreciate your insights !

Re: EVPN Type 6 route question

Thursday

Interesting question.

Does the route actually get copied down into the evpn instance table? and if yes on which switches?
