EX4300-48P - PoE not working after reboots

Hallo,

we have got a EX4300-48P. The Junos version is JUNOS 18.1R3-S10.4.

The firmwares are:

bubicon@box> show chassis firmware detail
FPC 0
Boot SYSPLD 10
PoE firmware 2.6.3.92.1
PFE-0 17
PHY
microcode 0x1
Boot Firmware
uboot U-Boot 2011.06 (Jan 10 2014 - 02:08:51) 1.0.0
loader FreeBSD/PowerPC U-Boot bootstrap loader 2.4
FPC 1
Boot SYSPLD 10
PoE firmware 2.6.3.92.1
PFE-0 17
PHY
microcode 0x1
Boot Firmware
uboot U-Boot 2011.06 (Jan 10 2014 - 02:08:51) 1.0.0
loader FreeBSD/PowerPC U-Boot bootstrap loader 2.4

{master:0}
bubicon@box>

Unfortunately after some reboots the PoE just does not work.

show poe interface says something like:

ge-1/0/0 Enabled OFF 15.4W Low 0.0W not-applicable
ge-1/0/1 Enabled OFF 15.4W Low 0.0W not-applicable
ge-1/0/2 Enabled OFF 15.4W Low 0.0W not-applicable
ge-1/0/3 Enabled OFF 15.4W Low 0.0W not-applicable
ge-1/0/4 Enabled OFF 15.4W Low 0.0W not-applicable

For all interfaces, although PoE devices are actually connected and should come up.

The PoE configuration is:

bubicon@box> show configuration poe
interface all;
interface bewohner-aps;

We've got the problem only on one VC member.

Can somebody help?

Thanks

Bubicon

Upgrade is not required.

Is this the correct PoE firmware version?

Hey Bubicon,

> show poe controller

Use the above command to check if you need up upgrade your PoE controller or if it has failed, if that is the case you might have to replace the device (RMA).

If you need an upgrade just use this command : request system firmware upgrade poe fpc-slot <slot>

Also, check the logs ( messages & chassisd) for any outstanding issues/information regarding PoE and make sure that power is not being injected to this switch from another device ( 2 PoE ports colliding ) this could cause an issue as the one you are facing

Hi Bubicon,

Based on the o/p provided, it does not need firmware upgrade.

Please provide the o/p for:

show poe interface <interface name>

Also, check if it`s possible to disable+enable the interfaces.

If this does not help, I would suggest to open JTAC case for further investigation.

Hi

Can you try to delete the poe configuration and apply it again ?

Also please try to raise the poe priority to high and check if that works.

If not then please open a ticket with JTAC for further assistance.

Hi Bubicon,

Is it possible to disable/enable the interface ?

If this does not work, try to config power manually for this port, similar to below command.

set poe interface <interface-name> maximum-power <power in watts>

If it does not work afterwards, please open a case for JTAC to check the issue further.

You have mismatched PSU’s in member 1. I would remove the 350W PSU and see if that resolves it.

Controller Maximum Power Guard Management Status Lldp
index power consumption band Priority
0 925.00W 108.19W 0W Class AT_MODE Disabled
1 1165.00W 0.00W 0W Class AT_MODE Disabled

Hey smicker,

I just removed the psu and did a cold reboot (plugging the other one out, too), but the issue did not resolve.

Hey Mohamed,

set poe interface <interface-name> maximum-power <power in watts>

did not help. Enabling and re-enabling the interface did not help.

I cannot open a JTAC. I think I have to contact the dealer who sold me the switch. It looks like a hardware defect to me. The other VC member runs the same software versions and configuration and doesn't have the problem. It also had the AFI 350 PSU, which is a problem of course.
